Green E.Th.I.Cs at the European Theater Forum in Opole

Opole, Poland - From April 11th to 13th, SCT Centre was invited as a speaker to present Green Ethics at the European Theatre Forum in Opole. This three-day event was a platform for engaging discussions, in-depth exploration, and insightful exchanges on the theme of performing arts. It was organized by the European Commission and featured conversations with artists, debates, participatory workshops, and networking events.

SCT Centre was extended the invitation by the Festival's Organizing Committee due to its role as the lead partner in the European project Green Ethics, which emerged as the winner of the Creative Europe Large Scale 2021 grant. The project focuses on developing innovative cultural initiatives and community-based social theater to raise citizen awareness about the pressing issues and challenges posed by climate change.

Green Ethics stood out as one of the case studies presented in Opole, aiming to ignite a vibrant dialogue surrounding the green transition of cultural organizations in Europe and the active involvement of communities in addressing the ongoing climate crisis. Together with representatives from the European Theatre Conference, accomplished artists, and esteemed scholars, we embarked on three intensive focus group sessions. Subsequently, we presented concrete proposals to the European Commission's Cultural Department, advocating for the implementation of policies that foster sustainable transformation within our industry.

The culmination of our collective efforts will be unveiled in July 2023 when the "Opole Recommendations" will be publicly presented. These recommendations will outline actionable steps to be taken in addressing these crucial challenges.
